How we handle what you tell us.

Who is responsible
Learn Syriac is operated by Ivos Solutions LLC, 954 River Rd, Piscataway, NJ 08854, USA. Ivos Solutions LLC is the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy. Courses are taught by Malphono George A. Kiraz.
What we collect
When you create an account
- Your first and last name, username and email address
- A password, which is stored only as an irreversible hash — we never see it
- A profile photo and any biography, if you choose to add one
While you study
- Which courses you are enrolled in and when
- Which lessons you have completed and how far through a course you are
- Quiz attempts, answers and grades
- Anything you write in course discussions or questions
When you buy a course
- Your order history, the amount paid and the date
- Billing details required for the purchase
We never receive or store your card number. Card details are entered directly with the payment processor and never reach this site's servers.
Payments are handled by PayPal and Stripe, depending on which you choose at checkout. Each processes your payment details under its own privacy policy. Prices are charged in US dollars.
Automatically, when you visit
- Your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you viewed
- The date and time of your visit and the site that referred you
Why we hold it
We use what we collect only to run the courses:
- To give you access to the courses you have enrolled in, and to remember where you left off
- To mark your work and issue certificates
- To answer you when you ask a question or contact us
- To take payment and keep the records that tax law requires
- To keep the site working and secure, and to understand which pages are read
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to advertise to you.
Who else sees it
Running the site means other companies process some data on our behalf. These are the ones that actually do:

Cookies
The site sets cookies that are necessary for it to work: they keep you signed in, remember your cart, and protect forms against abuse. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site.
Jetpack sets a statistics cookie. Vimeo sets its own cookies once you play a video.
You can delete cookies or block them in your browser settings. If you block the necessary ones, you will not be able to sign in.
How long we keep it
- Your account and course progress — for as long as your account exists. Access to purchased courses does not expire, so we keep the record that grants it.
- Order and payment records — for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Server and security logs — a short period, then overwritten.
- Backups — on a rolling cycle; deleted data disappears from backups as the cycle turns.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- Tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your account and the data attached to it
- Stop processing your data, or object to it
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, these rights are yours under the GDPR, and you may complain to your national data protection authority. If you are in California, you may request disclosure and deletion under the CCPA. We do not sell personal information.
Deleting your account also deletes your course access. Records we must keep for tax purposes remain, as the law requires.
Children
The courses are written for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so on this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will also be sent to registered students by email.
